My heart and your smile

By Hyppolite Pierre

We sang the song of love,
And your eyes,
Your tenderness,
Your soft voice
Covered my face with nuptial drape,
With lost hope,
With careless moves

I thought that tomorrow was yours,
Mine,
Ours

Although I was alone,
In my home,
My prison,
I was always hiding
Behind the fences
Of your smile

I could always see through you,
The desire to create,
To build,
To make,
To be,
To let be

Suddenly you disappeared,
Transported by the eagle
Of greed,
Distress,
Mad passion,

And your heart always red,
With love,
Compassion,
Hope,
Candor,
Your heart turned blue,
Then grey,
Then white,
Then black,
Then totally
Opaque.

Your smile lost all its charm,
Its appeal,
Its zest,
Its depth

Your smile became
Bitter,
Somber,
Sad,
Yes a sad smile,
A sad smile

Will you come back to me,
To us,
To them?
Will you come back to them,
To me,
To us?
Will you come back to us,
To them,
To me?

Will you smile again,
And warm
My heart?
Our heart?
Their heart?
