Note de prese de Fanmi Lavalas: Alerte prisonniers politiques

Saturday, March 05, 2005

Taking just measure of the humanitarian urgency to save the lives of Prime Minister Yvon Neptune and of Minister of Interior Jocelerme Privert, who are currently in the midst of 2 weeks old hunger strike at Haiti's National Penitentiary; Fanmi Lavalas hereby sends an urgent alert to all political sectors in Haiti, in the United States, within the U.N., the O.A.S, CARICOM and the African Union so they may urge the Group 184 de facto regime to cease its wicked policy being applied against the two Lavalas Ministers: Mr. Yvon Neptune and Mr. Jocelerme Privert.

Fanmi Lavalas is greatly concerned for the safety of its detained political prisoners, especially after hearing the outrageous declarations made by a member of the disbanded military, Anel Bélizaire, who took arms along side the Group 184 against the government lead by President Aristide. During radio news briefs issued in Port-au-Prince on Thursday February 24, 2005 Anel Bélizaire declared that personnel from the office of Gerard Latortue brought him a firearm with which he was instructed to assassinate Prime Minister Yvon Neptune at the very moment during which the commando arriving to free the drug dealers was expected to launch its operation.

It is now evident to all that the G184 government is willing to let Prime Minister Yvon Neptune and Minister Jocelerme Privert die during the hunger strike they have since undertaken. There is an urgent need for us all to rise immediately against this dangerous state of affairs in order to save two precious human lives.

In the name of all Haitians everywhere, Fanmi Lavalas wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to all organizations and individuals who have taken it upon themselves to champion the cause of its political prisoners, especially that of Prime Minister Yvon Neptune and of Minister Jocelerme Privert.
