Since December 3rd, 2001, the Bush Administration has implemented a new policy which has directed the Justice DEpartment to incarcerate indefinitely Haitian Refugees. Currently, over 200 Haitian Refugees are put in detention in several jail facilities in Miami. Congressional leaders, AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL, UNHCR, Barry University and countless other organizations have chastised the Administration for its arbitrary detention policy vis-a-vis Haitian Asylum Seekers and have requested their immediate release. So far, the President has remained silent on the issue.
